Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay received the 2025 FUEN Award
The highlight of the 69th FUEN Congress held in Bozen/Bulsan/Bolzano was the presentation of the 2025 FUEN Award. This year, the most prestigious award for the protection of minorities in Europe was presented to Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay, university professor and Minority Ombudsman, for her decades of work in the protection of human rights and minority rights.
Twelve years of protecting nationality rights – mandate-closing conference
The Minority Ombudsman's Secretariat organised a conference entitled "Twelve years of protecting nationality rights – challenges, opportunities and experiences from a decade of dialogue" at the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights on 19 September 2025, with nearly 100 partners in attendance. The event was held to mark the end of the twelve-year term of Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay as Minority Ombudsman on 3 November 2025. Before the end of her term, she intended to review the most important events and achievements of the past twelve years with her professional partners at a closing conference, thereby thanking everyone involved for their cooperation.
Start of the academic year and anniversary – The Network of Christian Roma Colleges for Advanced Studies begins its 15th academic year
On August 30, the Network of Christian Roma Colleges for Advanced Studies opened its fifteenth academic year with an ecumenical service attended by the leaders and residents of the eleven member institutions, as well as the Minority Ombudsman.
Day of the Cultural Heritage of Slovaks in Hungary
The Minority Ombudsman participated in a prominent social and cultural event of the Slovak community in Hungary, the Day of the Cultural Heritage of Slovaks in Hungary, which this year was hosted by Bükkszentekereszt (Nova Huta). The event was organised by the National-level Slovak Self-government, the Parliamentary Advocate of Slovaks in Hungary and the Cultural Institute of Slovaks in Hungary, with the support of the Municipality of Bükkszentkereszt and the Slovak Nationality Drlf-government of Bükkszentkereszt.
