Message of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights on World Children’s Day
“It is at both hard and imperative to celebrate the rights of the child when there is a war raging next to us, whose victims are not only the affected children but also, childhood itself”, Ombudsman Dr. Ákos Kozma reminds us on World Children’s Day. The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary thinks that the pandemic, the ensuing economic problems and the war, as well as the climate change pose enormous challenges to the states and families as they are but in the meantime, we should not forget to give our children not only security but also, a real childhood.

President of International Ombudsman Institute Visits Hungary
The President of the International Ombudsman Institute arrived in Hungary at the invitation of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary Dr. Ákos Kozma. During his multi-day visit, Mr. Chris Field is getting first-hand information on the direct legal and humanitarian support that is provided by the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary (AJBH) to the persons fleeing from the war in Ukraine, among others, at the Beregsurány and Záhony ombudsman information points. The President of IOI, who is paying his first official visit in Hungary right now, is also getting informed about the operation of the regional offices of AJBH and holds consultation meetings with the President of the Constitutional Court and the heads of the police forces, the aliens policing authority and the prison service, among others.

Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Takes Stand on State Audit Office’s Right to Scrutinize Public Bodies
Regarding the State Audit Office’s right to scrutinize public bodies – an issue raised in a joint submission by the President of the Hungarian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries and the President of the Hungarian Bar Association –, Dr. Ákos Kozma asked the Minister of Justice to look into the possibility to amend Act LXVI of 2011 on the State Audit Office.
