Minority Protection in Europe Summer University

For the thirteenth time this year, the Institute for Minority Rights is organising a summer university on the protection of minorities in Europe. The event, which took place from 7-11 July, attracted 27 students from abroad: students, doctoral students and young professionals interested in the protection of the rights and interests of Hungarians abroad and Hungarian nationality communities. The Summer University is organised by Dr. Laura Gyeney, Director of the Institute, assisted by the staff of the Institute in the organisation of nearly 20 professional lectures.

The Minority Ombudsman gave an almost three-hour lecture entitled "Nationality Rights in the Ombudsman's Practice", in which she presented the international and domestic framework of nationality rights protection to young people on four topics (Nationalities in Europe and Hungary; International Minority Protection; The Spread, Development, Types and Main Principles of the Ombudsman Institution; and The Hungarian Ombudsman Institution). The Minority Ombudsman has been an active participant in the Summer University for the past five years and considers it an important forum for professional dialogue as well as for knowledge transfer.

Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay received the 2025 FUEN Award
The highlight of the 69th FUEN Congress held in Bozen/Bulsan/Bolzano was the presentation of the 2025 FUEN Award. This year, the most prestigious award for the protection of minorities in Europe was presented to Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay, university professor and Minority Ombudsman, for her decades of work in the protection of human rights and minority rights.
