National Assembly Adopts Commissioner’s and Deputies’ Report on 2021 Activity

On 25 October 2022, the National Assembly adopted report No. B/16 on the activities performed by the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary and his deputies in 2021, with 118 consenting votes.

In 2021, the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights issued a report containing as many as 147 recommendations, in which a total of 260 recommendations were formulated. 7354 petitions were filed to our Office, of which 5995 cases were concluded and closed in 2021. 

The Ombudsman’s countrywide visits, which he started one year ago, were continued in 2021 as well. In the period between 1 January and 31 December last year, a total of 86 sites, including residential social care institutions, penitentiary institutions, children’s homes, and special children’s homes were visited by the Commissioner and his staff, and they issued reports on their findings in each case.

On 29 October 2024, Dr. Ákos Kozma, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, and Dr. Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay, Deputy Commissioner for the Rights of National Minorities in Hungary, attended the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Nationalities in Hungary. The session focused on Report no. B/7848 on the activities of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary and his deputies in 2023.
