Meeting of the Slovenian and Hungarian National Preventive Mechanisms

Commissioner for Fundamental Rights László Székely, who fulfills the role of the Hungarian National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) and his Slovenian partner, Slovenian Deputy Ombudsman Ivan Šelih, fulfilling the responsibilities of the Slovenian NPM, as well as NPM representative Robert Gačnik paid a visit to the Zala County Remand Prison on November 13-14, 2018, where they met with acting Prison Commander Colonel István András Fülöp, and Lieutenant-Colonel Szabolcs Porubszky.

Visit of the Serbian Ombudsman

The Ombudsman of the Republic of Serbia and his colleagues were received by Deputy Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, Ombudsman for the Rights of National Minorities Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay and Secretary General of the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Miklós Garamvári, on behalf of the Hungarian Commissioner of Fundamental Rights.

Justitia Regnorum Fundamentum

Commissioner for Fundamental Rights László Székely, Deputy Commissioner for the Rights of National Minorities Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay, as well as Deputy Commissioner for Future Generations Gyula Bándi presented the 2018 Justitia Regnorum Fundamentum Award to three persons on the anniversary of the establishment of the Ombudsman institution. The awards were received by Lajos VÉKÁS, professor of law, Vice President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Éva MAYER, journalist, editor-in-chief of the journal for national minorities entitled Barátság, as well as Sándor KEREKES, professor of environmental economics, lecturer of the Corvinus University of Budapest and the University of Kaposvár.
