The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights participated in an international conference organised on the occasion of the human righs Day in Cyprus

On the occasion of the Human Rights Day, the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM) and the Ombudsman of Cyprus organised an international conference entitled “The Venice Principles in Strengthening the Ombudsman Institution” on 10 December 2019 in Nicosia. Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma also participated in the consultation.

The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights paid an introductory visit to the Austrian Ombudsman Board in Vienna

Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma and Secretary General Dr. Réka Varga travelled to Vienna on 2 December 2019, where President of the Austrian Ombudsman Board and Secretary General of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) Werner Amon and Member of the Austrian Ombudsman Board Walter Rosenkranz welcomed them in the headquarters of the Board.

“The protection and enforcement of children’s rights should be a national minimum” – the message of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights on the occasion of the World Children’s Rights Day

“One of the main messages of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child – celebrating its 30th anniversary this year – that the consensus, the national minimum for the protection of children’s rights must be found and can be found”, highlighted Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma on the World Children’s Rights Day. The twentieth of November 2019 has been the Commissioner’s most exciting working day so far: first, he welcomed the Young Ambassadors of the UNICEF in his Office, and in the afternoon he attended a UNICEF event entitled “Children’s Voice”.

Henry Wheaton Prize Awarded to Our Colleague, Katalin Sulyok

Katalin Sulyok has been honoured with the prestigious Henry Wheaton Prize of the Institute of International Law (Institut de Droit International), which is awarded by an international jury to the most outstanding PhD dissertation written on international environmental law in English, German, French, Italian or Spanish.
