Ombudsman Inquires Ex Officio into the Csongrád County Secondary School Admission Procedure

The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights launched a procedure and asked the competent ministry for information about the decisions of the education district regarding the grammar school admission process in Csongrád County. Ombudsman Dr. Ákos Kozma wishes to find out how well-founded the earlier information on this matter has been, and whether the violation of the right of the affected students to education could have been the case.

Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Visited Nagykanizsa Juvenile Reformatory

On 29 April 2020, Dr. Ákos Kozma paid a visit to the Nagykanizsa Juvenile Reformatory of the Ministry of Human Capacities. During his on-site inspection, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights reviewed the measures taken by the institution for the prevention of the coronavirus pandemic, the rooms used for community and individual activities, as well as for providing medical services, and he also conducted interviews with the detainees and their education officers.

Visit to the Marcali Disaster Recovery UNIT

On 29 April 2020, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma paid a visit to the Marcali Disaster Recovery Unit of the Somogy County Disaster Recovery Directorate, where he inspected one of the most modern fire departments of Hungary, then held discussions with the head of the Somogy County Disaster Recovery Directorate, Artillery Brigadier General Mr. Antal Wéber. On this occasion, the Ombudsman also reviewed the implementation of the healthcare provisions aimed at halting the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Message of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights on the Occasion of the Day of the Police

Ordered in the wake of the corona virus pandemic and in an effort to curb its spread, the state of danger demands extraordinary efforts from all of us, as do compliance with and the enforcement of the lockdown measures and the rules for crossing national borders, all imposed for our benefit. It is essential that in these times of trial, we also dedicate a thought to those professionals who work for our security day after day. We hereby express our gratitude to the officials of the Hungarian Police and to all Hungarian policemen, who have doubled their efforts and endurance in their job in the present circumstances, and who continue to work with the same professional commitment as always, Ombudsman Dr. Ákos Kozma underlined on the occasion of the Day of the Police.
