null Human Rights Day in the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary

To mark the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, an awards ceremony was held in the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary on 16 December, 2024. During the celebration, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary Dr. Ákos Kozma granted several commendations and the Justitia Regnorum Fundamentum Award.

In his festive speech, Dr. Ákos Kozma, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, emphasized the importance of protecting human rights, underlining that these are universal and indivisible. He highlighted that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was one of the catalysts of a process that transformed certain fundamental principles and rights into enforceable international standards. He also pointed out that the protection of fundamental rights is not merely about compliance with legal provisions but also about standing up for justice and humanity under all circumstances. Dr. Ákos Kozma emphasized that, in a world where many still struggle for their dignity amidst wars, discrimination, and restrictions on freedom, it is everyone’s duty to remind themselves and others that human rights are inherent to all. Institutions and values that protect the vulnerable and ensure no one is left alone when their rights are violated play a particularly important role. The protection of human rights shall be reflected not only in words but also in actions.

During the ceremony, Dr. Ákos Kozma awarded the Justitia Regnorum Fundamentum Award to Tímea Aranyos, a care provider employed by the Children’s Home of the Veszprém County Regional Child Protection Service of the National Child Protection Service, for her outstanding work and professional dedication in the field of child protection.

The Justitia Regnorum Fundamentum Award, established in 2007, is presented by the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary to recognize exceptional professional achievements, human resilience, or contributions to the protection of fundamental rights in areas such as children's rights, the rights of vulnerable social groups, minority rights, or environmental protection.

In addition to the Justitia Regnorun Fundamentum Award, Dr. Ákos Kozma gave commendations to Ferenc Sulyok, CEO of KEFAG Ltd., Rózsa Balogh, school guard of the Bács-Kiskun County Police Headquarters, Tibor Mihály Török, school guard of the Csongrád-Csanád County Police Headquarters, Zsolt Gál, school guard of the Veszprém County Police Headquarters, László Szunyog, school guard of the Nógrád County Police Headquarters, Colonel György Makula, Head of the Communications Department of the Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters, Lieutenant Colonel Anita Rideg, Deputy Head of the Communications Department of the Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters, and Gáborné Nagy and Roland Csomós, senior staff members the the Communications Department of the Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters.
