Chris Field and Dr. Ákos Kozma Hold Meetings with Heads of the Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters

On the occasion of his official visit to Hungary, on 14 September 2022, President of the International Ombudsman Institute, i.e. IOI Mr. Chris Field, accompanied by the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary Dr. Ákos Kozma, held a meeting with Police Major General, Deputy Director General for Security and Incarceration of the National Commander of the Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters János Schmehl.

At the meeting, the IOI President was informed of the organisation and operation of the Hungarian penitentiary system.

On this occasion, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary Dr. Ákos Kozma informed Mr. Chris Field of his experience gained from his visits to Hungarian penitentiary institutions in the past few years in the framework of the OPCAT National Preventive Mechanism, the key conclusions drawn from his inquiries and published in the earlier ombudsman’s reports, as well as the findings and requirements formulated therein.
