null The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights visited the Border Crossing Point at Tompa

On 16 April 2020, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma paid a visit to the Tompa–Kelebija road border crossing point at the Hungarian-Serbian border. The Ombudsman surveyed the control of traffic passing through the border, as well as the implementation of healthcare measures adopted in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. The police chiefs present at the site informed the Ombudsman about the process of handling complaints that may be made by the citizens against the police measures, along with the details of information on the citizens’ right to complain.

The border crossing station operating at the external border of the European Union is currently one of those three road border crossing points which are open between the two countries during the state of danger declared due to the coronavirus pandemic – Hungary only allows the entry of international freight transport and Hungarian citizens wishing to return home.
